Merida sees strong growth in Q1 profit.
Merida’s Board of Directors meeting on May 10th has approved the Q1 financial. The Q1 sales amount was NT$5.57 billion, NT$187 million, or 3.25%, down compared with a year earlier. Though the sales was lower, Merida sees strong growth on profit due to higher average price and profit from robust e-bike sales, better return from oversea investments, and stable currency exchange rates. As the China bicycle market continued to be sluggish in 2018, Merida’s sales in domestic China market was down from the previous year. However, the sales of traditional bikes and e-bikes to Europe and the US markets were up by 18% and 54% respectively. Overall, the sales to global market was down by 7% on quantity but up by 15% on revenue. In autumn 2018, the UCI Road World Championships 2018 was held in Innsbruck/Tirol in Austria. For that reason, the two famous Austrian companies, KTM Bike Industries and Swarovski Kristallwelten (Swarovski Crystal Worlds) teamed up and created a fusion of their competences.
